ARTICLE SUMMARY: A web business can live or die on their conversions. Conversions in design are important because they directly impact the success and effectiveness of a website or digital product.
When things are not going well on a landing or sales page the tendency is to blame the copy. What the designers should be looking at is the design.
In Ashley Couto’s article “13 Design Mistakes That Are Killing Your Conversions” she points out the common mistakes that are affecting our conversion rates. Some of the bigger mistakes she points out are
- Lack of differentiation in text sizes
- Not putting your social proof in the most strategic place
- Only having purchase buttons at the top or bottom of your options table
Conversions are often tied to specific business goals, such as sales, lead generation, or sign-ups. Design plays a crucial role in facilitating these conversions by creating user experiences that guide visitors toward taking desired actions.
Effective design that optimizes conversions can lead to a higher ROI for businesses. By increasing the number of users who take action on your website, you can generate more revenue or achieve other key objectives with less investment in marketing or advertising.
Ashley reminds us that “Nobody’s going to get it right 100% of the time, so if you have made some of these mistakes, just know that even a website that’s all about optimizing for conversion doesn’t always get it right.” But, the more you know the better chances of getting it right the first time.
This is a great article for all designers, especially beginners.
