ARTICLE SUMMARY: Sometimes the concern about our future can be a little overwhelming, especially when it comes to design. With the speed with which things are moving it can become paralyzing.

Once fear takes over, it’s hard to break out of that rut, we need to snap out of it before it starts to take a mental toll on us. Sometimes we just need things to be put in perspective.

A UX Carol” by Maximilian Speicher takes a page from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” to help designers put into perspective the changes that are going on in design. A few topics touched on include:

  • The End of the Screen (as we know it)
  • The Designer as Educator
  • The Death of the “Monkey Worker”

With the help of the Three Ghosts, the designer realized that if he kept clinging to some kind of nostalgic understanding of UX from 1995, 2005, or 2015, he would indeed become a fossil.

It’s hard when we get blindsided by the future and not sure what to think. An article like this can help open our eyes to the fact that UX isn’t dying, it’s merely growing up and finding a new identity.

This is well worth the read, let us know what you think in the comments.
