ARTICLE SUMMARY: In today’s design world, shaped by Artificial Intelligence, it can feel like we’ve been dropped into a galaxy full of chaos and change. As designers, we know it’s the people who notice what others don’t, or choose to ignore, the ones who look past the rust, who will lead the way.

With today’s technological advances, design is changing at a fast and furious pace. Sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees. That’s where content designers come in, they have the ability to see through the fog and recognize what’s important and what’s not.

Eyes Open: The Superpowers AI Can’t See Without” by Jas Deogan looks at the role of the content designer and why, as technology advances, content designers need to take a more prominent role in design. Some of his key points include:

  • AI Is Content. And Content Is Design
  • The Superpowers We Bring
  • No One Is Coming. It’s Up To Us

While it’s nice that AI can generate text in record time, it’s the content designers who brings empathy to that text. AI doesn’t understand nuance or emotional context. Content designers help AI speak in a way that feels right, cutting through complexity to guide users toward meaning, not just information.

Without content designers, there’s no humanity. AI can not feel the frustration users experience, laugh with them instead of at them, or say the right thing at the right time. It may simulate these qualities, but content designers embody them.

While design is constantly evolving, no matter how far technology advances, it’s the content designer who brings the human element to it.
